Water And Light
Time is like water and light
It slips away through your hands
In the blink of an eye it'll turn and fly
While you're making all your plans
And all your schemes and your wondrous dreams
Will fade in the cold light of dawn
So don't sit and wait for the lightning to strike
Step into the eye of the storm
Rolling across the river today
The sky was heavy with rain
A baby cried, an old man sighed
And these thoughts ran around in my brain
You can bury your dreams for the future
Dig them up when the time comes around
But don't sit and wait for that day to arrive
The future is right here and now
And the dice will roll and the fates conspire
And chance will make a fool out of you
The cards are marked and the game is rigged
That much I know to be true
The wise man believes just what he sees
And the fool believes what he thinks
And this wise fool sits and spins his rhymes
In between life's missing links
The winds of change blow uncaring
On the good and bad, the rich and the poor
Yesterday is unchangeable history
Tomorrow's behind a closed door
Time is like water and light
It slips away through your hands
In the blink of an eye roll right by
While you're making all your plans
And your raging fires and your burning desires
That shone so briefly and bright
Will quietly fade like the plans that you made
To hang on to water and light
They'll quietly fade like the plans that you made
To hang on to water and light
