I Wish It Would Rain

The town hangs like a mirage

Under a clear, blue sky

The temperature's rising and the sun is blinding my eyes
The birds they sing so sweetly but I've got nothing to say
My wasted words are melting down, I should be on my way

And I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain down and wash me clean

The bus drives into the distance, there's no reason to stop
The dust drapes down in curtains, I drain my coffee cup
The waitress thinks that she knows me, but she's really not sure
I must remind her of someone else, I've never been here before

And I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain down and wash me clean

A cool shower from heaven might wash away the dirt
It's gonna take a deluge to wash away the hurt

I never was a rich man but I was making enough
Hard working, honest and true, until the work dried up
So one more cup of coffee before the sun goes down
The last bus is leaving, it's time to go home

And I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain down and wash me clean
