I Was Only Dreaming
I stood upon a high, green hill
Saw the flags of freedom streaming
And peace lay gently on the land
Ah, but I was only dreaming
I walked beside a river wide
Cool and clear and gleaming
And the waters fed the blooming fields
Ah, but I was only dreaming
Dreaming, dreaming
I was only dreaming
I heard a sound all across the world
A song of reason lifting
And with each new voice a wound was healed
Ah, but I was only dreaming
Dreaming, dreaming
I was only dreaming
Then the ground did groan and I felt the fire
And the earth lay torn and bleeding
And above the flames and the thundering steel
I heard forsaken voices pleading
Then sick and shamed I turned away
And I wished that I was dreaming
I wished that I was dreaming
I saw a room full of leaders proud
Every colour, creed and leaning
And all turned their hearts against hatred's vows
Ah, but I was only dreaming
And I stool upon a high, green hill
Saw the flags of freedom streaming
And peace lay gently on the land
Ah, but I was only dreaming
Dreaming, dreaming
I was only dreaming
