Damascus Road

I have stood up on the mountain, my face towards the wind

And the Lord he surely knows I have sinned

I have crawled across the desert beneath the burning sun

And the devil surely knows I'm on the run

Now I'm walking through the valley where the peaceful waters flow

And I'm searching for salvation down on Damascus Road

I have sat down by the ocean on ancient shifting sands

And watched as time slipped by through my hands

I have run down ragged ribbons of endless winding roads

Without a soul to help me with my load

Now I'm walking through the valley where the peaceful waters flow

And I'm searching for salvation down on Damascus Road

Damascus Road is straight and true

The rules of the road say a toll is due

From the edge of nowhere to the end of time

Damascus Road is a worried mind and the traveller's blind

When the light won't shine

I have dined in golden temples at the tables of desire

And watched the stakes go rising ever higher

I have seen the broken relics, so sad they make you weep

Their empty eyes look through me in my sleep

Now I'm walking through the valley where the peaceful waters flow

And I'm searching for salvation down on Damascus Road
